D. Gorton and Jeff Shero began the White South project in 1968 as an attempt to document Southerners in the wake of the social and political changes wrought by the 1960s. The archive includes 91 negative sleeves, 120 contact sheets, a flash drive of digitized photographs, cassette tapes, and project notebooks.
