Goodnight, Charles, 1836-1929

Texas celebrated its Sesquicentennial, or 150th anniversary, of its founding as a Republic in 1986. For this historic event, the Austin American-Statesman prepared a special Sesquicentennial Edition of its daily newspaper.

Consisting of photocopies of letters and other documents, the James H. East Papers document East’s life and career as a merchant, ranch foreman, lawman, and judge.

Papers of Goodnight concern trail driving, cattle raising, the John Charles Beales land grant and Rio Grande Colony, and Indian depredation claims.

The Laura V. Hamner papers contain correspondence, literary productions, financial records, broadsides, scrapbooks, photographic cuts, and newspaper clippings, which document Hamner’s career as an author, teacher, newspaper columnist, and radio announcer.

A bound volume of Photostats comprises the Panhandle Stock Association Records, 1887-1888, 1926, documenting the organization of the Panhandle Stock Association.

Reminiscences in original and typescript, a family history, photos, and information from secondary sources relate to J. T. Pollard's experiences as a pioneer settler and Indian fighter in old northwest Texas with Sul Ross; Charles Goodnight; Jim Tackett; Ike Sanger; his brother, J. B. Pollard; and his father, R. W. Pollard.
