Composed of typescripts and photostats of correspondence and resolutions, the Frontier Protection Records, 1857-1865, document the efforts of government and military officials to raise and maintain a regiment of Texas mounted volunteers to protect the western frontiers of Texas.

Correspondence, financial papers, and commission of Thomas Jefferson Green (1802-1863), soldier, legislator, and planter. Thomas Green organized the Texas Land Company and moved to Texas in 1836 but abandoned the colonization project to serve in the Texas army. After being commissioned brigadier general, he returned to the United States to raise volunteers, money, and ammunition for the Texas cause.
