Simeon English Clark papers
Scope and Contents
The Simeon English Clark papers, 1895-1964, primarily consist of historical notebooks, and also include correspondence, scrapbooks, promissory notes, newspaper clippings, photographs, literary productions, certificates, and genealogical charts. The papers concern explorations of Cabeza de Vaca, Coronado, De Soto, Espejo, Joutel, La Salle, Narvaez, and Oviedo; and also relate to the French in Louisiana and Texas. Additionally, the papers concern Spanish and Mexican history (1492-1848); Indian tribes of Texas and southern United States; and Indian wars.
Furthermore, the papers pertain to the American colonization of Texas; the Texas Republic; and the annexation of Texas by the United States. They also include material regarding the experience of Americans in World War II; deaths of pioneers and local news of East Texas; and genealogy of the Clark and related families.
