Comprised of publisher and editor Ellen McCrady’s subject and project files, the Abbey Publications Inc. Records, circa 1970-2004, document the administration of Abbey Publications, Inc. Arranged by topic, the files consist of correspondence, publications, printed material, research material, financial records, mailing lists, board reports, and meeting minutes. Biographical / Historical

Based in Austin, Texas, Abbey Publications, Inc., was a nonprofit corporation established to encourage preservation of library and archival materials and the use of lasting materials in the creation of records. Trustees at the time of the organization’s dissolution in 2006 were Ellen McCrady, Gary Link Frost, Roberta Pilette, James Wellvang, and Ellen Cunningham-Krupa, and officers were president McCrady, first vice president Frost, second vice president Wellvang, and treasurer Craig Jensen. McCrady also edited the Alkaline Paper Advocate (1988-1997) for users and makers of alkaline paper, the Mold Reporter about toxic mold, and the Abbey Newsletter (1975-2004), which published book and paper conservation research. Abbey Publications also published McCrady’s North American Permanent Papers, listing manufacturers and types of permanent papers and special archival products as well as discussing the process of papermaking.
