Historical Note

The battle of San Jacinto took place on April 21, 1836 and effectively brought about the end of the Texas Revolution. Led by Sam Houston, the Texas forces scored a decisive victory over the Mexican army, winning the battle in just 18 minutes and with only 9 casualties. The leader of the Mexican forces, Antonio López de Santa Anna, initially disappeared in the aftermath of the battle, but was discovered by Texan troops and taken prisoner. Three weeks later, he signed a peace treaty agreeing to withdraw Mexican troops from the region and recognizing the independence of Texas.
