Biographical Note

Dorothy Aarts (1922-2012) was a student at Incarnate Word Academy of Houston when she submitted an essay to a competition sponsored by the Sons of the Republic of Texas. This essay, which was later published as Ghost Towns of the Republic of Texas (Houston, 1939), won the competition.
